9 Easy Travel Tips to Ensure an Exceptional SuccessConnect 2024
Ah, Lisbon — where the streets are steep, the pastéis de nata are sweet (cream puffs to die for), and the jet lag’s no joke.
These 9 tips will help you survive the journey from North America to Portugal's sun-kissed capital and soak up the experience of SuccessConnect 2024.
- Book early flights, especially for networking 🛫 — Arrive a day or two before the conference starts. It gives you a chance to adjust to the time zone and sneak in some informal networking with attendees already there (or to attend our invitation-only event).
- Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate 💦 — Airplanes are notorious for sucking every bit of moisture out of you. Drink plenty of water before, during, and after the flight. Skip caffeine and alcohol until you make it to Lisbon.
- Prep for jet lag 🥱 — Jet lag and back-to-back sessions are a brutal combo. Hydrate during your flight, and if possible, plan a quiet evening before the conference begins to reset your brain before diving into sessions.
- Bring a business-casual wardrobe 🧳 — Lisbon daytime temps in October are usually a balmy 75° (but it can be much hotter🌡️), but conference venues tend to crank up the A/C. Dress for both professional events and after-hours networking, but pack something light for strolling around the city.
- Take advantage of Lisbon’s public transport 🚌 — A complimentary shuttle service is provided between the Lisbon Congress Centre (CCL) and all official conference hotels except those within walking distance. However, Lisbon’s public transport can save you time and hassle if you want to go sightseeing.
- Mind the hills & heels 👠— Those quaint cobblestone streets are unforgiving in Lisbon’s historic neighborhoods. Ditch the fancy footwear for something more practical.
- Download the SAP Event App 📱 — The app for SuccessConnect 2024 is now available in the Apple and Google Play stores.
- Use lunch breaks to network over local cuisine 🤝 — Instead of grabbing a quick bite alone, invite fellow attendees to a local café. It's a great way to bond over both work and Portuguese delicacies like sardines or pastéis de nata.
- Learn basic Portuguese phrases & use ChatGPT for conversations 🗣️ + 📲 — While many speak English, a little Portuguese, like “obrigado” (thank you) or “bom dia” (good morning), goes a long way with the locals. For conversations, download the ChatGPT app and use the Advanced Voice Mode as your personal translator.
And remember, balance is key — what's the point of absorbing cutting-edge insights if you can't toast to them with a glass of vinho verde after the sessions?
